Eco Warriors

Welcome to our Eco-Warriors Blog! Take a look at the latest updates below…

We are Clarendon’s Eco Warriors and our aim is to work towards a more Eco friendly school. We have one representatives from each class from Year 1 to Year 6 and we attend a meeting fortnightly. As a team, we discuss ways of improving our school to make it more sustainable and we take our role very seriously. We help others to understand that we all play a part in the role of making our school and community more sustainable. We feedback suggestions made by other children, staff and governors in school so that we can all contribute towards improving our environment. We have recently achieved a distinction for the ECO Schools Green Flag Award.

Meet the Clarendon ECO Warriors

Litter Picking in our local community

For each bag of rubbish collected, the children receive 10 house points!

Litter Picking in our Local Community

This year, we are encouraging our families to lend our litter picking equipment and get outside to litter pick in the local community. So far, we have had a great response to this!

Litter Picking in our Local Community

Lila from 5F went litter picking with her Mum and did a fantastic job of making the area look cleaner. As well as this, it makes it a safer area for wildlife.

Litter Picking

We met up with other schools in the PASS group at Leverhulme Park. We went armed with litter pickers and bin bags and spent the morning collecting litter. After we had finished, the park looked much cleaner!

Enviro-Fest

We took part in Enviro-Fest which was hosted by Bolton School. We performed songs, poems and dances linked to Bolton’s 5 Ways Happy Days. We had an audience of over 100 people!

 Nature Walk

Whilst we were in Leverhulme Park, we went on a nature walk. We spotted a number of different trees in the orchard. Then we carried on exploring and found lots of different leaves, bushes and flowers.

PASS Group Song Creation

We met up with schools that are part of our PASS group to create a song for our ‘Enviro-Fest’. The song links to Bolton’s ‘5 Ways, Happy Days’ project as well as climate action and sustainability and we will be performing it in front of an audience at Bolton School.

Wildlife Corridor

Children from Year 4 and Year 6 have been working with Miss Milson to develop a wildlife corridor in school. We hope that this will encourage more pollinators into our school environment. They have been working hard digging over the grass, laying soil and planting wildlife seeds.

Pond Life

Mrs Wailes has kindly donated frog spawn to bring life back to our pond area. The children have been carefully observing it and excitingly, this week, it has transformed into tadpoles. We now have a number of tadpoles swimming in our pond. Hopefully soon, we will see some frogs!

PASS Group Meeting

We met up with schools that are also part of our PASS group to plan out activities for the forthcoming year. We were also lucky enough to have a guest speaker- Bernadette- who is an advocate for climate action and sustainability in and around Bolton.

Recycling Assembly

ECO Warriors led a whole-school assembly. Talking to the children about what recycling is, how we recycle at home and in school and the impact that recycling has on our environment.

Clarendon’s Sustainability and Climate Action Wow Week

This week, children from all classes were given a question linked to sustainability and climate action. Through a variety of task, such as: reading, writing, statistics, nature experiences, forest school and art they showcased their learning.

Green Flag Award

This year, we are working towards the ECO Schools Green Flag Award. As part of this, we conducted an ‘Environment Review’. We are using these result to plan for the year ahead us to be a greener school.

Environment Review

We spoke to our Kitchen Manager about how sustainable the food we eat at school is and how our waste is managed.

Environment Review Continued

We also, spoke to our Site Manager about how energy efficient our school is.

Bobby Heywood Park Litter Pick

This week, as part of Earth Day, we joined forces with other local schools in Bolton to take part in a litter pick at Bobby Heywood Park, which is next to our school. Lots of our families like to enjoy spending time in the park, but sadly there is sometimes a lot of litter. We spent time litter picking and managed to fill a massive 15 bags of rubbish!

Food Waste Recycling

We are working hard to reduce landfill waste in school. As part of this, we have a new food waste recycling bin on our playground. Members of ECO Warriors are monitors to ensure children are correctly recycling

New Litter Picking Equipment

We contacted Bolton Council as we needed new litter picking equipment. They kindly gave us lots of new litter pickers, bin bags and bag holders and we have already been busy using them to keep our school and the local community clean and tidy!

Presenting our vision

Members of ECO Warriors led an assembly for the children and staff. They outlined their vision and goals for the year and shared what they had achieved so far.

Houses of Parliament

ECO Warriors, School Council and Miss Fedtschyschak were invited to visit the Houses of Parliament in London with other local schools. We travelled on the train and tube and had a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament as well as a walking tour of London. We learnt about how issues are discussed and decided in our country.

School Book Fair

We helped Miss Mallett out at our school book fair this week, suggesting books for families to buy and helping to keep the books tidy.

This week, ECO Warriors spent some time collecting litter around school. We found litter on the playground, which we picked up. We also found some plastic bottles, which we recycled

ECO Warriors led a school assembly and taught all the children about school budgets, where money comes from and how it is spent.

We sent out a survey to staff and analysed the results. They asked us for a recycling bin in school to recycle plastic bottles and cans and we made it happen!

Mrs Coldwell asked for a paper recycling bin in the technology room and we provided her with one smile

Members of the ECO Warriors met with Mrs Chatterjee- our Head Teacher- and Mrs Cummins- our Business Manager to discuss all things budget. We learnt about how much energy we use, the positive impact of having solar panels, how money is spent in school and how we can work towards saving more money.

ECO Warriors met with the staff to share their ECO vision and code and to update them on what they have been doing.

As a team, we designed an ECO Savers of the Week Award. The class who have been the most ECO friendly for that week, win the award.

Each day, we go to each class to check that they are saving energy by turning off lights and screens and recylcing correctly. We record it using this log.
