During the summer term we will be looking at new life and animals that you find on the farm.

In week 1 we will be reading the story ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and singing the nursery rhyme 5 Little Ducks. The children will be learning all about different types of feelings and how we must be caring to our friends. We will also be working on our counting skills and recognizing numbers 1 to 5 and 5 to 10.

During Week 2 we will reading the story ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and learning about the different farm animals she hears throughout the story. Which farm animal is your favourite and why?

Throughout week 3 we will be focusing on the story ‘Little Red Hen’ and how it is nice to help each other and share what we have. The children will be making their own bread and tasting bread from around the world.

In week 4 we will be reading the traditional tale ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.The children will be creating castles using the large construction and creating beanstalks with their friends. who will make the tallest beanstalk? We will also be planting and growing different types of seeds (cress, mustard)

Week 5 we will be sharing the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and once again focus on helping each other and turn taking. we will be playing lots of games that require this skill and thinking about what makes a good friend. We will also be making vegetable soup and planting lots of vegetables in the nursery garden.

Finally in week 6 we will look at ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and how he turns from a wriggly caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly. We will be looking at the patterns of caterpillars and butterflies and think about how we need to take care of a real caterpillar ready for summer 2!

In summer 2 – who lives under the sea?
